Part of Can multi-location marketing work without one reliable location registry?
Multi-Location Marketing Checklist: Closing Out a Location
Multi-location marketing checklist for closing a location: name the owner, close each listing, hand the territory to recruiting, and archive the records.
What to take away
- Verify the location record before approving any campaign or page.
- Preview changes by location and field before publishing in bulk.
- Test exception and rollback paths as part of launch readiness.
A multi-location marketing checklist should connect data, people, customer experience, and evidence. Run it for launches, transfers, campaigns, platform migrations, bulk updates, seasonal changes, and closures. Name the owner beside each item.
Location foundation
Location Foundation Checklist
- Assign durable location ID and legal entity
- Verify address, territory, timezone, languages
- Map platform, page, profile, account IDs
- Record central, regional, local, agency rights
- Test admin recovery, offboarding, exports, rollback
- Pull the location record from the location registry and check the store code, legal name, address, phone, hours, and category against the signed franchise agreement or corporate records.
- Confirm the ownership record names the current franchisee or corporate entity, and check that the access list matches that owner.
- Name the role that approves each field and the backup role for coverage.
- Verify each local fact against a current source, then record the owner, the source location, and the expiration date.
Bulk-change safety
Google's bulk-import instructions tell users to download current location information and preview proposed changes before applying an upload, and they explain warnings, store-code issues, and update types. Those controls apply to Business Profile Manager, and the same discipline belongs on the rest of the stack: Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook, the local landing pages, call tracking, paid search and social accounts, and the CRM. Use equivalent diffs, validation, approval, canaries, logs, and rollback for every distribution system.
- Validate headers, types, required fields, IDs, dates, and country formats
- Reject duplicates, shifted rows, blanks that erase data, and unexpected volume
- Test one representative and one edge-case location
- Approve the exact diff and preserve the input and result
- Confirm live outputs and remove temporary permissions or files
Customer-facing content
W3C's writing guidance for web accessibility recommends informative titles, meaningful headings and links, useful image alternatives, transcripts or captions, clear instructions, and concise content. It is practical guidance, not a legal determination. Apply it to the real location journey and include disabled users in testing.
| Gate | Pass condition |
|---|---|
| Claim | Evidence, scope, approval, and review date |
| Local fact | Current source, owner, and expiration |
| Destination | Accurate offer, location, action, privacy, and accessibility |
| Response | Working route, service level, capacity, and fallback |
| Measurement | Defined event, source, denominator, cost, and cohort |
Closeout
- Stop all scheduled, automated, paid, local, and partner distribution
- Close or mark permanently closed on Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, and Facebook, and correct the address, phone, hours, and category anywhere the location still appears
- Shut down the call tracking number, ad accounts, review alerts, and CRM automations, and remove or reassign the users behind them
- Remove expired claims, offers, audiences, access, and temporary data
- Reconcile costs, credits, responses, outcomes, complaints, and unresolved cases
- Archive approved and published versions plus source records
- Record control changes and the next review date
Franchise closeout and the territory record
A location closeout in a franchise system is also a franchise document event. Check what the signed franchise agreement says about termination, non-renewal, transfer, and the territory boundary, then record which of those paths applies to this location. In the United States, the FTC Franchise Rule (16 CFR Part 436) sets the disclosure duties that follow, including updates to the Franchise Disclosure Document, and the states with franchise registration requirements have their own filing steps.
Territory recruiting picks up where the closeout ends. A closed or transferred location frees territory the franchise development team may offer again, so hand the verified location record, the closed profile list, and the ownership history to the recruiter before the territory is marketed. Keep the ownership record and the recruiting file on the same facts.
Give each closeout item a named owner — franchise operations for the agreement and the territory file, the location data owner for the listings, and the media or CRM owner for the accounts and tracking — and record pass, fail, or accepted exception as you do for every other gate.
Record the gate result
The W3C Privacy Principles statement gives web-system designers shared privacy concepts and warns against shifting privacy work to individuals. Apply it to multi-location marketing checklist to review privacy questions on the multi-location marketing checklist alongside the governing law and configuration.
The CISA software acquisition fact sheet covers development practice, supply-chain exposure, deployment, and vulnerability management, so add those government-acquisition questions to the multi-location marketing checklist review without treating them as local approval.
For every checklist item, record pass, fail, not applicable, or accepted exception. Add the evidence location, reviewer, decision date, and next review. A checked box without proof cannot protect a release. Stop the work when a mandatory privacy, security, data-quality, accessibility, or correction condition fails, even if the remaining score looks favorable.
Example gate record: item 'Local fact: holiday hours', result 'pass', evidence 'Store page screenshot dated 2025-06-01', reviewer 'Location data owner', date '2025-06-02'.
Record rejected options as well as the chosen path because the original constraint may later change. Use the same definitions in the interface, export, meeting note, and correction log. Close unused reports and permissions after the decision cycle ends.
Common questions
Can a checklist be fully automated?
Rules and diffs can be automated, but people must judge authority, customer meaning, rights, local truth, and source fit.
Who owns the checklist?
One program owner coordinates named owners for location data, content, platforms, operations, measurement, finance, security, and compliance.
How often should it run?
Run the relevant gates at every material change, plus scheduled audits for facts, access, exceptions, recovery, and measurement.
